PROGRAM
Peter and the Wolf is a story ballet inspired by the music of Sergei Prokofiev composed in 1936. It invites children of all ages to embark on an adventure into the forest with Peter and his animal friends. In this original dance work based on the classic children’s tale, each character is represented by a corresponding instrument and musical theme: the bird is represented by a flute; the duck by an oboe; the cat by a clarinet; the grandfather by a bassoon; the wolf by French horns; Peter by the string quartet, and hunters by drums. With the addition of gorgeous original costumes and sets, Peter and the Wolf is a delight for all the senses. Narrated by Sharon Stone, this beloved story captures the hearts of young and old alike.
Beside a Lake: Variations from Swan Lake Act 2 features selections re-interpreted from the beloved classical ballet. Under the spell of an evil sorcerer, beautiful maidens spend their days as swans swimming on a lake of tears and their nights in their human form. Swan Lake was originally choreographed in 1895 by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, with music by Tchaikovsky. The story mixes magic, tragedy, and romance.
Mixed Rep features new jazz and hip hop works.
