Due to the high tides in 2020, you may find yourself dreaming of calm waters and restoration.
Take a deep breath and close your eyes. Imagine yourself sitting on a private beach, as the golden sun rises slowly over the dunes and the waves lazily crash on the beach. Today is going to be amazing. You have a beach yoga session at 8:30 AM. Then you head over to the guided nature walk through the Marina Dunes Preserve at 10 AM. After your walk, your masseuse awaits you at The Spa for some much-needed R&R followed by an unforgettable dining experience at Salt Wood Kitchen & Oysterette Restaurant. To finish off this perfect day, you will enjoy the sunset over the sea and a quaint bonfire on the beach.
Welcome to The Sanctuary Beach Resort, the only resort on the peninsula that has a private beach bluff and beach access.
I had the pleasure of interviewing Jeroen Gerrese, the Sanctuary Resort General Manager. For Jeroen, a typical day isn’t so typical. Just after the sun rises, he begins his day by walking the resort, meeting with the night auditor, and the overnight security team. He then attends several pre-shift briefings including housekeeping and the leadership team to review the profiles of every arriving guest. He proceeds to inspect all of the rooms. As his day goes on he attends more meetings, bids farewell to departing guests, and welcomes the new ones. Pre-COVID he would meet the guests and converse with them at the resort’s social wine hour. He is the go-to guy for just about anything.
Jeroen has quite a busy schedule however, it is very rewarding. He mentions that when he sees the happy associates create a positive work environment, all of the hard work is worth it. This blissful environment helps guests create memorable experiences at The Sanctuary.
Recent first-time visitor and high school friend of the Chamber’s president, had this to say about his recent visit…
“I highly recommend this hidden gem next to the beautiful Pacific Ocean sounded by breathtaking sand dunes. My wife and two daughters spent the weekend at the Sanctuary Beach Resort and couldn’t have been more pleased. From the extremely warm and cozy beach front villas to the beautiful landscaped grounds we were all taken away. Spending time walking up and down the beach to riding bikes around the property (which were free) was all we needed to relax. Oh and did I mention you can bring your puppies with you, which they encourage you to do. They light fire pits at night to sit around and that gives you a chance to meet and mingle with new friends. We really didn’t know what to expect before we arrived but after staying there we can’t wait to come back. The Sanctuary Beach Resort is a place we will continue to visit.” – Josh Zicherman, San Ramon, Ca.
Great the Day with Beach Yoga
This Summer, the Sanctuary added complimentary Beach Yoga classes offered by Chamber member and local business Monterey Bay Moves. Guests get to wake up and enjoy all the beauty the sea and wildlife have to offer with this 60 minute class. Morning yoga brings strength and fluidity through a strong, breath-driven flow. The ever shifting sand, waves and coastal weather bring new awareness and a whole new understanding of balance both beneath yogi’s feet and into their life.
” It’s been a blessing to work with Jeroen’s team at the Sanctuary to bring yoga to their guests. Every weekend the class is different: new flow, different skies, waves crashing loudly or quietly, whales and dolphins showing up post meditation… it’s a one-of-a-kind experience for sure! For us at Monterey Bay Moves, bringing our wellness and fitness programs to the most beautiful and inviting natural spaces in the Monterey Bay is what drives us. We know Sanctuary guests are not just looking for a place to sleep – they come to the resort to recharge and find energy, and beach yoga is the perfect occasion to supercharge your morning in such an inspiring setting.” – Elizabeth Plante, Monterey Bay Moves Owner, Marina, Ca.

Though times are difficult, the resort continues to serve its guests. Perhaps it is time for you to recharge and enjoy a small escape to the Monterey Bay. Over 40% of the guests are return visitors; you can feel confident that you are making an excellent choice when booking your stay here.
